My alt cover for an upcoming issue of Steven Universe! Painted in gouache on watercolor paper. The piece is already sold, but it is currently featured as part of the Steven Universe gallery show at Gallery Nucleus, if you want to check it out in person!

Chicago-born Kyle Thompson is a 21-year-old self-trained photographer. Having only practiced photography for two years, his work is technically challenging and aesthetically stunning. His photographs are mostly composed of surreal and bizarre self-portraits, often taking place in empty forests and abandoned homes.

His work encapsulates the ephemeral narrative, a nonexistent story line that only lives for a split moment. These images show the collapse of narrative, as there is no defined progressional narrative with a beginning and end; instead, these images create a loop. This fleeting moment lives on in a constant unchanging state. By diverting the view of the face, the images become more ambiguous, the viewer is no longer able to tie a defined story or definitive figure to the image.

See more of Kyle’s work on his Website, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts.
